There's no reason why you can't bind it to a host directory if you so please though, I do that for one of my sql images

MacOS historically has performance issues with bind mounts. I think there's comments throughout a lot of the docker-focussed files in AzerothCore noting this as well.

I'm sure MySQL could be tuned to not use as much disk IO and do more in memory but thats besides the point

MacOS is different and the flavors of the operating system now with Ventura, then with the new chip has made my beloved Mac a PITA to develop on vs it use to be great-ish. I moved if over to ubuntu now, so not going to be a thing of the future. There seems to be a lot of issues in GitHub for docker compose down/volumes related to behavior so I think I will just keep the updates I made and see how it goes (I already set up backups now with a cron)

I fixed the playerbots branch also, it now works using Docker. There are some db permissions out of the box that are broke though so addressing those.
