It's not abnormal to do that for a database in docker. I dont have an exact reason, though

MySQL's underlying data files aren't normally something you'd mess with anyway. I personally wouldn't say there's a benefit to bind-mounting the mysql datadir, but maybe there's something I'm not considering here

the container's readme[0] recommends to bind `/etc/mysql/conf.d` rather than the my.cnf in `/var/lib/mysql`, so imo bind-mounting the datadir probably wouldn't be useful at all

isn't the risk that if the files are not saved to the host system and the volume is disposed of its a mysql wipe?
