Hey hey, very simple question:
I had to wipe my pc and thought I made a proper backup of my server by duplicating bot the Build folder and azerothcore-wotlk folder to an external HDD. However upon opening the server on my fresh pc I can't seem to see the characters in the database anymore. (It also asked me to create a new acore_auth on booting up the server)
Did I screw up and did I not backup the actual database, or is it actually in that folder but am I accessing it wrong?

If you didn't export the databases before removing them, they're gone.

Along with all data in them.

IF you did export them, you just have to import the exported files

Damn ok, so for future reference, I have to make the database backup in MySQL itself to do it properly?

Yes, you have to tell it to export the data somehow - if it's automated backups or you doing it manually from time to time, it has to be done either way.

Usually it's pointless to export the world database though, and the files on your disk (build files etc) doesn't contain any of the character/account data so losing those isn't the end of the world. All you'd lose are your configs and you can always set those up again with ease.

Ok thank you for the quick answer! Right, so the only truly important thing to back up in the future would be the database

Yes, it really is. Even if you're the only player it's always good to do regular backups so you don't lose anything.
