The problem is if you don't know how to use MariaDB you will run into multiple issues. Windows doesn't come with the C++ libraries like MySQL does, if you try to use a MySQL server with MariaDB libraries (or vice versa) it will complain about mismatching version. I've seen plenty of people try to compile AzerothCore with the MySQL C++ Libraries and then connect to a MariaDB server, and the other way around too, and be confused why it's complaining about mismatching versions. I can't think of every single issue that has popped up but there's been a few over time so I say if you don't know exactly how to coddle MariaDB, stick to MySQL.
