or maybe you have to open ports on you vm. like port 3306 have to be open in you brandmower/system (depending you running win/nix)

you need to open port and change the bind address of mysql to 0.0.0.0 to allow all external ips and create a user that allow external connection by using '%' instead of 'localhost' etc
