Yes, you shouldn't start the server on startup without delay if mysql is running on the same system because that causes issues

If you set it to automatically restart on error it's not that big of a deal because it'll simply restart until it can successfully connect but it's still a bit strange.

yeah I think the problem was that after failing a couple times it was stopping to prevent a loop

You may need to turn logging on in the config for the authserver or worldserver to correctly get it to ping in the log. You could try the mysql log tho as the error is more specific to mysql
