If it's an item that you need from an object, and it's not "collect x number of this" but rather just one off - I always set the respawn to 1 second. There are still plenty I haven't gotten to since I add stuff as I encounter them while leveling.

I always try to add "collect x number of this item from the ground" to creatures to let me complete more quests with my group

I'm not sure if the auto updater automatically handles it, it might. I import them myself so I haven't tried it, sadly.
