I'm not sure the issue happens on Linux but I know if I try to start up the server on my windows dev environment built with mysql, connecting to my mariadb server, it gives the same error as the one you have. I don't know Docker so I can't help much on that, sadly. It does look like it installs `mariadb-server` and `default-libmysqlclient-dev` which I don't know how well it works. Is the mariadb server also run by AC or did you install it yourself?

The mariadb server, in this case, is installed by me on a linux box.

Is there a reason why you chose Docker over a classic installation? I'm just trying to get some understanding on this.

I also have to ask, is Docker running on Linux or Windows?

I don't want to install the dependencies and packages on the server. Docker allows you to run software in a sandbox-like environment. You can run different versions, configs and so on. Usually it would work out of the box. It's like a virtual machine, but instead of running a full virtualisation (hardware, system and so on) it just separating the application and dependencies in a "container".

I'm running it on Linux. I know it a bit better than windows.

I know what Docker is and how it works, I use containers myself (although not Docker). What distro are you using?

Oh. Ok. Sorry for explaining then.
I'm using Debian.

It's okay that you explained, but I just wanted to make it clear that I know. Okay, Debian installs mariadb-server in Docker but again it's using mysql lib - I've never gotten those to work together myself. It would be worth it to modify the script to use mariadb-client and dev packages instead of mysql to see if it fixes it - because it should.

There's no guarantee that it would, though.
