Well, actually i have a `make -j many_cores install` instruction, and after all that is done I simply restart. The binaries can be updated while the server is running.

It works but not my common practice, which is why I don't suggest it. I do, however, know very well that it works the same - unless you're on Windows which spits at you and calls you an idiot.

Okay. Anyway I only do this when I'm behind it and wanna continue trying things in game while compiling a fix for something for example. I would not recommand automating the things this way neither.
For my update scripts, properly stopping the server is the very first part of the whole thing.
