A repack is pre-packaged, already compiled with everything included and ready for "plug-and-play" basically. A fork is just a separate copy of the source that you can modify without ever affecting the original source.

Look at it like you have a text file that you want to change but you don't want to change the original file and risk losing important stuff so you make a copy of it and edit that one instead.
