to be fair it may not be so simple depending on what php version that thing requires but its still unbelievably more easy than windows

It's not horrible to host on Windows. It's just uncommon for things like hosting a public private server.

Small projects for next to no users (close friends etc) aren't uncommon to run using Windows but I personally don't know anyone who hosts anything big on it.

If you don't have the option to use Linux, it's not impossible to do it still - just takes more work and a lot of research on your end.

There are a lot of guides available for Windows for anything you need, so it's not like you can't get it done.
