There's no "difference", bad optimizations or flags can cause something to grind to a halt compared to with the correct flags being set

Not necessarily, the outcome could be the same with many different reasons, it doesn't have to be just a single architecture that has a problem. Or it could be, it could be a single flag not being set for a specific architecture, in not just the application but any of the dependencies used. That's why profiling is important, to isolate what is actually happening
