If you really don't want to give it more memory, worst case scenario you can throw some swap at it but writing/reading swap is a lot slower than RAM

I've never seen it set swap to the same value as RAM. 25% of RAM is what I usually get as default on full VMs. Either way it's strange if swap exists but isn't used. 387 MB free RAM is not.. even.. remotely.. good

Unless it starts using swap it's no wonder the server dies, it tries to load maps into memory and since it's full it crashes instead

ok, will increase memory to 8 Gb and see if that fixes the problem, than I can investigate the swap if that helps
