that simple? restart the server and then it should go with the spell_dbc database table instead?

Correct. The _dbc tables are overrides - but only for server-side effects. As in you can not change e.g. visuals in the client by adjusting the server's dbc.

I tried WDBX Editor and it just throws error when trying to open the mpq files
