Frankly it would be better if the focus was mysql on the wiki so noob users don't, for whatever reason I couldn't tell you, pick mariadb to start with.

I don't think any support in the core for mariadb should be removed, just the information when setting up the database should be either removed or changed so people just stop choosing the one that's clearly wrong for them.
