I just read the installation guide and it tells me to execute a patch -1 < patchname.patch

Again, I don't know enough to understand that statement, I would need a little more information to know how to apply the patch to the sourcecode. Thankful for any sugestions on how to achieve this. Thanks!

That's what you would need to do, yes.
Also please contact to the author of the code you're using. They're most likely not in this discord and we can not support strange code.
