48 hours isn't a lot when the server traffic might be weekly logons

i'd rather keep the items in the AH indefinitely

I've never had issues with space while being out leveling (or doing other stuff) for many hours on end. I use my junk-to-gold module though which totally eliminates that issue. I'm not saying you're doing it wrong, because you're **not**, just that I personally prefer to deal with it in more of a blizzlike fashion rather than go "funserver" (stupid friggin term because it ain't fun) style.

Yeah I want to get the junk-to-gold-module and a few other setup. Just haven't had time, so went for the quick/easy bandaid fix. I also originally didn't want to 'heirlooms' at start but have kind of gone away from that as well. What the hell do I care if the first few levels you blow shit up?
We have limited time to play so I realized that keeping the game too sedate wasn't what I wanted. There is still downtime in the travel from point A to point B which is a bit of what I want the small human to experience. Too many games are all about the constant input. Sometimes you just need to run on a horse and enjoy the view. Or fly on a grphon (which he loved looking around at burning steppes and such).
I'm also debating the auto ability up. I know there is a module for it but was also playing with the idea of making my own, partially to get some practice/experience in but also to make it a 'user selectable feature' rather than a server On/Off thing. So I can turn it on for my kiddo's character(s) and the characters I play with him...but keep it off for my solo play character.

I took some time off work at the end of the year and will probably use it to play with the server and modules (existing and new) a bit. Time is always in short supply.

I did the same for heirlooms. Originally I didn't want to unless I spent emblems on them but then I also just said f* it. Though not all heirlooms are available in the patch I'm currently playing so at least that reduces the overkill a little bit.
There are several modules to automatically teach you spells (I assume that's what you mean). I also made my own mainly because the others didn't have what I wanted in terms of config options and my OCD also says I need control over what happens and when. It's not a bad place for you to learn, really.

And since there are a few modules it means I have multiple points of reference to see how others accomplish the same goal.

I still need to muck with how to use GIT properly as well. Create my own forks, how to merge code in, etc... I have experience with SVN and 'old' versions of VS Team server but it has been some time. So lots of places I need to invest time, and minimal time to invest.

I moved from SVN to Git too and even though it is different at least I had some knowledge of version control before Git - like you.
