I wouldn't choose the path of downgrading AzerothCore only to try to support an old version of the database. What little you gain by doing so is not in any way, shape or form worth what you lose.

If you're only running azerothcore, and you're not in a situation where you **need** to use mariadb, I'd say just go with mysql all day, every day.
