Ah yes. Well I think one could argue that the DBC files for example are technically copyright protected, but I guess because the files required by the core are of not much value standing for themself, no one would really bother about them.

There's a good reason why no emulator prior to AC ever distributed those files

I think the only reason there’s dbcs and maps available is the convenience and time saving to help new users, no other reason, we could remove them and no longer offer them
