Exactly, I was thinking Galera or something similar. Dynamo DB or whatever. Overly expensive though for such a small usecase. Agreed on whoever said the ban thing, this isn’t coming from the perspective of generating profit, at all. Simply academic/educational. Such a fun game, and I’m sure like the rest of you, it’s exciting to see the internals and into see the brilliance and something that’s already ancient.

It doesn't really matter the purpose behind it when it comes to emulating a WoW server. If they're strict enough they can ban you for running it.

Lol, what it really comes down to is they always tell me they want to get into what I do for a living, but I can’t get them off the video game long enough to actually take some classes. I’m excited about the good work you’re doing here with this project and it got me thinking about ways to make it accessible to non IT nerds (and maybe even provide context). Even in its already impressive state, if I told them to go clone the project and run some commands I’d get the confused face. So I was thinking an Ansible playbook, or a terraform plan/apply might make it brainless (from a docker run). Again, most of this is just my newfound excitement of finding you guys, coupled with the frustrations recently of trying to help people get out of jobs they hate and into IT.

It might also trigger them to *want* to learn more, maybe even take those classes. It is, as Foe said, a good way to start.

It's important to remember that most gamers aren't *really* interested in IT though

Exactly. Anyway, thanks for reading all. I know we’re all busy today. Just a simple case of being excited to find that there’s a project that’s still doing this and hoping to get my toes back in the water.

I have had too many apprentices that thought they wanted to do IT, but what they really wanted to do was spend time on their computer

Well, if they don't like it at least they'll know not to pursue it.

Sure, just saying I probably wouldn't spend too much time on very complicated concepts if they aren't willing to do the basics

I guess if it's something TheDude will use for himself or to develop tools to help others who run servers that's worth it even if all those others decide not to go that route. If not, I don't know if I would run with such a project either.
