The install guides all assume Ubuntu or Debian, while steamOS is arch based?

i dont think something like steam deck will have enough performance to host server and play game and on top of that wotlk dont rly have gamepad controls so im not sure about playability either

search `steam deck` in the search bar at the top right and maybe ask somebody who has used it

I've played other repacks on it with no issue, it works great and steam deck emulates all inputs well. It's the azerothcore manual installation i am having issues with
