Hey y'all! Sorry if this seems like a dumb question here- I've been meaning to work on making some custom classes, talents (also changing existing talent trees) but all of these fields seem to be empty of existing data- which is odd because the server is still functional (classes still are race appropriate, talents are functional etc.)

this goes for chrraces.dbc, classes.dbc, talents.dbc- all of them. they're all just void of data.

where is the worldserver grabbing the data from if these are empty? I can't quite find where's it's pulling from.

there's a lot of other blank slates, chrtitles is another?

Data in the _dbc tables are only used to override data loaded from the DBC files.

You can add entries to the _dbc tables to add or edit data that's loaded from the dbc files but keep in mind that some needs to be changed on the client-side too.

ah right! thankyou noisiver!

I see- sorry i worked from other cores before awhile ago and I just operated on them through the tables iirc- so yeah, all these changes would need to be implemented through an mpq and the likes- correct?

so, if i wanted to view the dbc files themselves, where abouts are they typically hidden?

The DBC files are stored along with maps etc that the server uses and also in the MPQ files included with the client (Data/<locale>/*.MPQ)

Anything that the client sees, simply put, require changes on both sides. Some things can be changed without needing the client to have the same changes, like say max players in an instance, but of course the client will see the wrong value (say you edit a 10 man to be 20 man, the client sees 10 on the minimap icon but there can be 20 in it). Simple example hopefully explaining the exceptions.

That's a custom MPQ archive (client-side) that I made, just to show the structure of the archive in case you don't know how.

I'm gonna do a lot of snooping... Would you advise edits to be made through the tables, or the files themselves? final question here! I hope to not keep you for much longer! :p
