MariaDB has more downsides than MySQL when it comes to AzerothCore but MySQL performs like shit for everything else I do (compared to MariaDB). A few seconds more to load AC? That's apparently the end of the world for some people but it's not going to stop me from using MariaDB.

I can admit that because it was my opinion that first got me to pick MariaDB - way before it even turned out it runs better with other stuff.

For a user new to the scene and has no experience what so ever MySQL is definitely the better choice because when it comes to AzerothCore there are some issues that may pop up and if you can't fix them well then..
