Cause if you do that on the internal network in general, then the host will resolve that external dns as a local dns entry

And thus only expose on lan and not wan like expected

So if you want to use the external dns entry internally, then you have to do it client level and not network level

I got it working. It was an odd NAT issue on my network, which actually didn't make sense when I disabled it.
I do the DNS override on the router. By having `server.com` resolve to `192.168.88.48`, that means locally I (and all devices on my LAN) get that private IP. Outside clients will obviously get `1.2.3.4` (the public IP), which can be routed over the public Internet.
The auth- and world-server don't care what IP address you connect to as long as they're there, listening for the connection on that address. And they are, ultimately, listening on the `.48` address.
It was working earlier, but now my client is just hanging. The `worldserver` is using 100% CPU time and about 1.6GB of RAM. It's a multi-core system, so I'm not too bothered about the CPU usage.

It eventually times out and presents the realm list, only for things to repeat.

If I turn the realm on and off (stop the service), it goes "offline" and comes "online" again.

Yeah it's not able to forward you to the world server
