i started with the docker instructions on chromiecraft which is super simple but you can't install mods. after that i just keep playing with the different ways to run it while i learn more

There is supposedly a version for Docker that supports modules and one that doesn't. I'm not sure why there are two.

back in the days I just downloaded the repacks and run it on windows. it was dead simple

acore-docker is the pre-compiled image. It has transmog and eluna.
azerothcore-wotlk is the real thing and also available via docker.
