as in, `bar` instead of `bar.foo.com`? Not sure if that makes sense to me unless something is hard
> also it would've taken seconds to test instead of having to spend time waiting for a response
How do you know I *didn't* test it on my own previously and got result that led to me having an incorrect belief (probably due to dns propagation)?

A regular domain is obviously a domain but a subdomain of that domain is regardless still a subdomain and the DNS-records are still behaving the same way.
I assumed you didn't test it because it's never failed before unless the user messed up their DNS settings which seems unlikely.

it's more clear to say fqdn in this context. It's possible that my server isn't on a subdomain <

You try saying FQDN or fully qualified domain name to someone who knows nothing about it and watch the reaction.

`It's possible that my server isn't on a subdomain` I don't understand.. A subdomain is a sub.. domain of your domain. Every dynamic DNS service that you use but not for your own domains provide subdomains. Using the full domain or a subdomain is exactly the same.

The domain or subdomain points to your server and that's all.
