I just disable password login to my servers and only allow a specific private key that is encrypted with a long and complex password. Good luck getting to my data.

I'm flapping here, but as I edit my conf files I've decided I like I can just have a blank .conf file with just the few things I changed from default/dist. Very clean.

When dist is removed, I can guarantee you it'll print warnings about that every time you start the server though - keep that in mind.

Honestly, if someone is on Linux and know a tiny bit of bash I always recommend creating a simple script that'll copy .dist to .conf and change settings automatically to prevent any issues when new settings are added.
