For the low-end person who don't know and don't want to know SQL, imagine trying to change settings. Would they prefer being forced to learn a SQL client or simply open up a text file and change it?

I think if you moved the config to the database it would be harder to find the configs you're looking for since it would be harder to write comments

You have to do that whether it's a conf or in the DB

Db based config worked surprisingly well, but I'm biased

yes but a lot of the config comments are multi-line and explain in a lot of detail

Well, anyway, the issue at hand is the dist file and it has to go. Frankly it shouldn't be considered in any case except when cmake copies it. The server shouldn't try to read it, only the .conf and if settings are missing use the defaults in the core.

my point is you don't have to do it in a query or in SQL, you would be able to do a lot of it from GM commands

Then just make commands that write into the .conf, easy
