Sure, I don't disagree, but that default shutdown sequence or at the very least save functionality should be handled properly through signaling as well. I normally wouldn't send a shutdown signal to my VM's but when I do, I want applications that run on it to shut down cleanly.
As an example in a power loss situation where my UPS instructs my hypervisors to shut down, I also want the applications ran on the VM's to terminate properly
