like it would be cool if you have to choose its class and then you send it off on an adventure and it gets resources based on that class

I think I'll base it on gathering professionals, engineering, herbalism, etc. and just have menus you can select from. Each mission can give some XP. They level. They can gather more complex/harder/expensive things.

I think for tanking, it would just need a good amount of EXP and a Taunt ability.
