db assembler was used before the autoupdater existed. It's depreceated but still in use, if one wishes to maintain a db without the core.

In most cases, users don't tend to maintain a database without the core and frankly it should be discouraged to use it. It's more or less obsolete in simple words. I would say only the more advanced users would use a db without a core and I imagine they'd do it their own way instead of using the db assembler.

I don't know why. There are a few situations where people need support because running that file isn't working properly and I was told the auto updater is the only supported system from that point forward.
