i don't think there will be frequent or mandatory changes to the packet level anymore. If so, one could still try and find a C++ dev for it.
There are things like scripts which could be handled by other languages tho.

i would say it would be better to stay in c++ and create refactoring/reworking effort to do things like
- fix naming of variables etc to not be nonsense
- code cleanup
- more transparent and searchable dbc loading
- separate auth guild mail and instance servers and create cross realm
