Quote: This is my first custom model. I know it's a little shabby, but I figured I'd share it anyway. Thanks to Glitchy for his excellent suite, and to everyone who has posted information on model editing.

Now that I've created this "proof of concept", I'm going to begin work on something more substantial and complex.

So without further adieu, I give you Broken Blade:

Notes:

- The handle is smaller than I intended, but I didn't notice until the model was complete. I didn't like the idea enough to completely redo it to fix the handle.

- The texture and overall design of the blade is a bit plain, but the idea was simply to model a shattered blade. to introduce myself to the process.

- As I doubt anyone really wants to swap out my level 30 paladin's weapon, this release is the .m2 and .blp you need to compline your own MPQ. If you really want me to make an MPQ, post with the item you want me to replace and I'll do it as soon as I have a few minutes to spare.

Quote: It looks more like a magic sword rather than just a broken sword, because broken swords aren't like that.

What would be REALLY cool is if you made the pieces float up and down. =)

EDIT: The handle looks fine to me.

Quote: I was thinking about that, but I wasn't sure how animation is handled, and I didn't want to try and tackle it my first time out. Perhaps I will revisit the model and try.

If anyone wants to give me some tips of how to do animation, that'd be awesome. I know my way around 3DStudio Max, but I'm not sure how animating it there relates to animating it in game. If I animate it in Max, will it survive the export and conversion process?

Quote: Sadly, I believe most things made in 3DSMax will only hold one animation through conversion. nobody has been able to find a way to fully animate a custom model with a wide array of animations that i've seen.

Quote: I've got an idea. That sword looks sort of like a differently textured vergil from devil may cry 4 yamato before nero put it together. If someone recolors it to look like a katana blade and adds some sort of glowing affects inside the sword like magic holding it together, but theres only like 1 person here that knows how to add that type of graphic, and he will take it with him to his grave..
