That's also kind of unlikely but more likely than the database being breached

A large player base obviously has a higher risk of ddos since people are children and don't like getting banned so they attack the server in that way.

its quite common that private servers are attacked by ddos by competitors or some unhappy players etc

Depends on how and who your hosting provider is. It has to be blocked upstream of you
