But in the end it boils down to the changes in containerization more then in the changes to hardware. Back in the day you had one Server the ran one OS to perform one task. Now take that same hardware ahead 20 years and that same processor might be doing Email on Windows one day and compiling C# for Linux the next. The hardware is no longer married to its function its just a pool that gets reassigned to a different container based on the scaling

People are used to different things and tend to stay to what they know. I don't regret it when I switched from VMs to LXC containers but I'm not going to look into something else because I'm used to this now, I like it and don't need anything even better.
