yes but that just shows their attitude its rly not that expensive to keep 1 realm running for few thousands of ppl

i plan to let my server run for years even if i dont get anything from it...its so cheap i barely notice it on my monthly bank report

1 realm doesn't mean 1 server, lol. You can run it all on one machine and it's not using much but imagine the electricity to run x number of blades just to keep another realm running that's empty.

they could just merge all realms to 1 for classic same for tbc and run that on single machine the cost is nothing

I don't think running it all on one system would be as easy as with AC since it's all designed to be split up. Perhaps if that system runs x number of VMs or containers.
