Cores speed things up when you're compiling the source, to a certain point, but 4 cores for example is more than enough in the long run unless you have a very large amount of players. More help, but is a waste of money if you don't know you need it. 16GB RAM is enough if you want to be safe, but it can't hurt to have more if you feel that you need it for other things. I would say at most 8 cores and 16GB RAM is enough.

I run my server limited to 4 cores and sure I only play 10 characters but the CPU sits at a laughable 2%.
