Fwiw I had almost no trouble getting AC going on rocky 8.6 — just had to build a newer Boost from source

Debian 11 will end support this year and 9 ended in 2020 so it looks like it's about 2 years for Debian. Ubuntu has 5 years for their LTS, I think.

If we’re being honest I’d have no concerns running an unsupported distro just for AC… for the foreseeable future. Not ideal tho.

It's always good to stay up-to-date of course, at least on a system that isn't critical. I switched to only using Debian mainly for the reason that the newest version of Ubuntu can't run OpenSSL by default but I will not be switching back evne if that changes because I'm happy with my change

Openssl 3.0 isn't all too hard to switch to, there's not very many places in the core that use 1.x specific features, and they released a pretty good migration guide
