Just be wary of the load balancer of your choice, quite a few of them like non-enterprise nginx doesn't support active checking, so it takes some time to fail over

Doesn't HAProxy run well? I remember using that for database servers and the switch was instant. It was running MariaDB Galera but noted the server it connected to was instantly changed.

this would hit a digitalocean load balancer that terminates at an edge proxy called Gloo, i believe you can specify health checks in it
