I think there might be a CMake switch to point to the actual Maria library to use

No idea what it was, but I remember having that issue due to multiple dbs on my system

<@278207834699595786> to back up, why did you upgrade mariadb/was it necessary? (like if it ain't broke) you could run a mariadb docker image bound to localhost:3306 to work around the issue. sorry all my suggestions are docker based
