Try running autoremove and autoclean before removing the build folder and running cmake again

I've never had those issues myself so I can't say for sure why you are. There is a fix somewhere though, there always is.

Sorry, not really a linux or a mariadb user, but the problems I had before in a similar situation were caused by mysql remnants not being removed after an update/reinstall on debian
