Not really. There should be no impact.
As a general advice, you can always refactor later if you notice a huge performance impact. The core does things like that all the time and this would be just one GO'S AI.

Though, wouldnt it be more natural to have the event on update AI than a timed event in that case? Also, I dont see any timer on CheckPlayerDistance. If it fires once per ms thats kinda bad; if its once per 100 ms like a normal GO AI update is perfectly fine

On AIUpdate would be a good solution imo.
