I'm trying to sneak start and end of a combat in without breaking the cpp AI. I don't see a way tho.

No worries lol, best bet is to see how AI is applied in the core, but I seemed to remember if you had registered a c++ script, it would overwrite the Lua AI

You could spawn a dummy creature that has a timed event that checks the state of the boss every second or so
