As far as I have seen, the server will die from CPU limitations (map update threads choking it to death) long before MySQL will ruin it

Not everyone who uses azerothcore has the hardware to run it using the GPU, assuming azerothcore wouldn't need a rewrite to support it (I don't know how it works).

The general consensus has always been that rewriting map updates would be the best outcome but that's an insane amount of work too.
