I suppose what I'm asking is, in the code, is there a place where the MySQL database connection is defined, that could be modified to accept other SQL based connectors.

MariaDB could work from default because as far as I know its basically MySQL+other stuff. For postgres it might even be needed that you change all the Queries in the Code
