To be honest I gave this the attention because I expected drama from me bringing up such an old issue that I keep making snide comments about everytime I see complain about AC

Yeah, maybe cylinder collision worked better but to me that surface looks flat, so it would have the same issue (we are talking about 3D test, right?). We are talking about the surface from that video, the position where player stands and it returns -10000 (no ground) or something.

It's a 3d test in that it handles 3 coordinates, yes. But the player is still represented by an infinitely small 3d position, it doesn't have any width or height.
