Are you unfamiliar with bitmasks? Consider this variable as a set of bits, where each bit can be either 0 or 1. For instance, a bitmask might appear as 10010101. By knowing the index/position of a specific encounter(bit) in this mask, you can use bitwise operations to determine if it is completed or not.
