its 14 years since wotlk nobody even remembers how it worked u can be 20% off on everything and 95% of players wont have idea

Because back then reverse engineering was harder to get into and people basically assumed things and did very little research. Add that to the fact that most contributors had very little to no prior programming experience. The end result is a code base that follows almost no standards and is poorly written.
