It is a tool. And like any other it is going to get inproperly used by individuals who don't get how to properly use it. And those who get how to use it will figure out novel ways to OVER utilize it - which will then continues the vicious cycle of companies thinking they can do the novel thing with it and utterly failing.
Unfortunately it already has had a hit on StackOverFlow as they feel that Co-Pilot is handling answering a lot of basic coding issues/questions and reducing dependencies on them. Long term it should balance out so that while you might see fewer questions on Stack you might start to see more questions of - I hesitate to use the word "substance", as if saying that simple questions are bad/stupid...but of higher complexity?

My current favorite is a lawyer that got in trouble for using Chat-GPT to lookup case examples - but didn't verify/cross reference them. Only to find out that it just WROTE fake ones.

I find that it's fantastic for things I do once, and it does variation on. So if I write the first part of an if statement, it pretty reliabily can write the second. Or mimic my logging style.
It often falls on its face with something novel, making up functions and being generally confused.
To me it's like a calculator - it's very powerful, but if you don't understand what it's producing, you're going to have a bad time.
