so maybe, scan threat list and check if both the target and victim are in combat

i guess doing it through player as unordered map of unordered maps would be best that would be 2x O(1) performance

its just kind of bad naming bcs victims are individual units no matter who started combat so even if npc attacks u in its hostile ref it is victim
words like victim and target and 1 more i dont remember are in different places used with different meaning which is making mess
